The PORTS of Kemi, Ajos and Veitsiluoto, are located in a crossroads of traffic modes. The PORTS are located close to the Swedish border, thus the connections to the Arctic Area are good.

A straight, 10 m deep access channel leads into the harbour of Ajos making the export and import of larger consignments of goods possible. Forest industry products, paper, board, pulp, and sawn timber, are the major export commodities. The import consists of raw materials for the forest, metal, plastic and electronics industries, as well as raw materials, machinery and various equipment for the small and middle size industries.

There is also an oil pier in the harbour of Ajos, through which liquid fuels and liquid chemicals are exported and imported.

The Port of Kemi can offer excellent warehousing facilities, and the container traffic through the port has experienced a steady growth. Some 20.000 TEUs are annually handled in the Port.

The efficient stevedoring and crane services combined with scheduled weekly liner services offer our customers a reliable and fast service.

For exports, and such imports that do not require customs clearance, the Port of Kemi can offer the services of Kemin Vapaavarastopalvelu, where goods can be stored in bonded warehouses completely customs duty free.

The total traffic through Kemi was in 2002 2 917 592 tons and the number of ship calls 738.
